MALAYSIA ITINERARY

AUG 31 - SEP 2: GAYANA
Arrive Kota Kinabalu Airport,meet and transfer to Gayana Jetty. Overnight at Gayana Resort Bay.

SEP 2: KOTA KINABALU
Depart Gayana Resort Bay.Pick up at Gayana Jetty and transfer to Hotel Shangri-La (3 Star - downtown) for overnight.

SEP 3: SUKAU
On arrival at Sandakan airport by MH2042 at 0740hrs, transfer to Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plankwalks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 10.00am. Continue 110 km to Sukau where we take a 10 minutes boat ride to Sukau Rainforest Lodge for lunch. Late afternoon take a two hours river cruise using electric motor in search of wild Proboscis monkeys as they settle down on treetops along the Kinabatangan River. Return for solar heated hot shower, candle light dinner and slide show conducted by naturalist. Overnight at Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

We use electric motors for our river cruise to minimize noise and air pollution and disturbance to the wildlife. The lodge is equipped with solar hot water, private bathroom, solar electricity and fan at night.

SEP 4: SUKAU
Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. A 6.00am morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to view more birds and wildlifes. Proceed to the Kelenanap ox-bow lake for a short jungle walk (if weather permits). Experience the wilderness of Borneo. After breakfast we take a short tour of Sukau village. In the afternoon, you have the option to participate in our conservation project by planting trees at our 64 acres adopted land at Tenegang before we proceed for our river cruise for more wildlifes. After dinner, an optional night safari cruise spotting nocturnal animals, crocodiles and birds.Overnight at Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

SEP 5: GOMANTONG / BORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE
After breakfast transfer to Sukau by boat and overland to Gomantong Caves. Trek 20 minutes through the rainforest to the cave entrance. Your guide will brief you on the cave faunas including bats, swiftlets and crabs among others and their contribution to maintaining a balanced ecology and significance to the local economy. When in season, witness the collecting of birds' nests by the local people using bamboo ladders and poles.Proceed 2 hours overland to Lahad Datu for lunch. Drive 83km through selectively logged forest, cocoa and soft-wood plantations before arriving at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge beside Danum River on the edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest. The Lodge is home to the full range of Sabah's lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran Rhinoceros, Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and Orang Utans. So far some 275 species of birds have been recorded in the area. Explore nature trail and nearby river. In the evening a slide show and if weather permits one can go spotlighting to view some of the nocturnal animals.Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

SEP 6: BORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE
Early morning birdwalk before breakfast. Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to waterfall and dip in refreshing rock pools. Lunch at the lodge. 1500hrs Jungle walk through trails leading to canopy walkway.Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

SEP 7: KOTA KINABALU
Morning Trek in search of mammals and birds. Return to the Centre for lunch before departing for Lahad Datu. Overnight at Hotel Shangri-La (3star-downtown)

SEP 8-10: PHUKET
Spend three nights on the beach, staying at the Chedi Phuket.

SEP 11-15: CHIANG MAI
Stay at Westin Chiang Mai in Chiang Mai.

SEP 15: CHIANG MAI/BANGKOK
Stay at Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers in Bangkok.

SEP 16: BANGKOK/KHAO YAI
Begin 3 day/2 night tour to Khao Yai National Park organized by asiatours.net.

Drive from Bangkok in 2 1/2 hours to the Khao Yai Garden Lodge and check in. Our first trip starts at 2.00 p.m. to visit the holy stalactite cave and the marble temple donated by the Crown Prince. Back at the Lodge at abound 4.15 p.m. Around 5.00 p.m. we take the car and drive to the bat caves, and can see more than one million bats swarming out of their caves to hunt for nightly food - a unique and most interesting experience. From the bat cave drive directly into the national park. Our night tour starts through mountain forest and grassland, to watch the nightly animal world from a ranger car, illuminated by special halogen spotlights. Various species of deer, wild cats, wild board, porcupine can be seen and with a bit of luck elephants at the salt licks. Back at the Lodge at 9.00 p.m. for dinner and overnight.

Depending on the season and time of the year, you may see flowering trees and wild orchids, with different beautiful butterflies fluttering through the fragrant jungle air. The jungle has an impressive and unforgettable beauty, bizarre climbing plants, rare palm trees and ferns

SEP 17: KHAO YAI NATIONAL PARK
The following morning, after breakfast, we explore the different types of forest and drive high up into the mountains of Khao Yai National Park. Using the elephant trails for an easy hiking at first about three hours, to watch macaques, gibbons, some species of the rare hornbills and many another birds, insects reptiles, orchids , ferns and nice plant life at the forest. Even tigers are sometimes seen. After we visit a big waterfall, where you can swim and take lunch. From the cliffs at 1270 m above sea level, we can admire the magnificent view over Khao Yai. Back at the Lodge about 5.00 to 6.00 p.m.

SEP 18: KHAO YAI/BANGKOK
After breakfast we visit a typical country market (without tourist other than us), where we will find many beautiful and impressive subjects, or drive to a very quiet and peaceful forest. Here we explore a sandstone labyrinth with 2000 years old rock paintings. On the bizarrely formed rocks grow fig trees whose roots clinch to the rocks and thousands of lianas hanging down from the top. We hear only the birds singing and the sound of Squirrels. Back to the Lodge for lunch. At about 2.00 p.m. we will start our return trip to Bangkok.

SEP 19: BANGKOK
Stay at Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers in Bangkok.

SEP 20: BANGKOK/BEIJING
Depart for Beijing, and the next leg of our trip.
