New
Zealand is a country of spectacular natural beauty, thrilling outdoor
activities, and plenty of sheep. With a cheap, local rental car,
we drove from the top of the North Island all the way down and around
the South Island. Though, it wasn't until we reached the national
parks of the South Island that we found the breathtaking scenery
we had been expecting from all the rave reviews we'd heard.
I particularly
enjoyed the various Great Walks we hiked all or part of: the Milford
Track, the Routeburn Track, and
the Abel Tasman Coastal Track. On the
downside, the English-derived food was not particularly palatable.
But, we compensated by staying in self-contained units and cooking
for ourselves.

The streams of New Zealand - crisp, clear
waters tinged with beautiful colors from
natural tanins and minerals.
Pure enough to drink from safely!
