The
Polar Pioneer, a converted Russian
research vessel, was our home for 12 days
along with 52 other passengers.

Antarctica
is like no other place on earth. Far, far away from any civilization,
we found dramatic snow-covered peaks, floating icebergs of all shapes
and sizes, thousands and thousands of comical penguins, and quiet
serenity. It was well worth the long trip there, which involved
flying to the southern tip of South America and then cruising for
two full days on rough, open seas across the Drake Passage.
