Alaska
Cruise and Tour (plus Canadian Rockies)
|
 |
Our
tour of British Columbia took a last-minute detour to the Canadian
Rockies upon discovering our original destination of Bowron Lakes
still frozen over and closed. Though a bit disappointed after
the 9 hour drive, an up-close encounter with a grizzly bear on
the way out more than made up for it. The Canadian Rockies were
breathtaking, with majestic mountains and tons of wildlife. After
spending a few days in both the Jasper and Banff areas, we found
that we far preferred the scenery, abundant wildlife, and relative
quiet of Jasper.
See
photos of the Rockies and lots
more wildlife.

Next,
we boarded Holland America's Veendam cruise ship for the Olivia
Cruise to Alaska. The ship travelled up through the inside
passage all the way to Seward, stopping at Ketchican,
Juneau, Sitka, and Valdez along
the way. The ship also spent a morning cruising near the Hubbard
Glacier. On day excursions we got to go fishing,
glacier climbing, kayaking,
and rafting.
Following
the cruise, we joined a post-tour cruise of the Kenai Fjords and
a trip to Denali National Park.
