For
our second shore excursion, we joined an exciting tour in
Juneau that included a helicopter ride over the nearby mountains
and glaciers as well as two hours of glacier treking on the
Mendenhall Glacier. We were outfitted with crampons (spikes
for traction on ice) and learned how to walk on rugged, icy
terrain. The glacier flows were quite spectacular close up,
and the glacial pools sparkled icy blue. Best of all, we lucked
out with a sunny day and relatively warm weather.
